Maryland State Police say a 19-year-old posed as one of their officers and made fake traffic stops.

The authorities reported that Jayden Ballard from Salisbury received a criminal summons in February, facing charges for pretending to be a police officer and unlawfully taking a vehicle.

“The Maryland State Police got reports suggesting that Ballard accessed a marked Maryland State Police car,” the police stated.

“Investigators suspect he drove the patrol vehicle, dressed as a Maryland State Police officer, around Wicomico County, where he carried out illegal traffic stops,” they added.

“The police urge anyone who encountered Ballard while he was posing as a Maryland State Trooper to reach out to the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division,” according to a state police announcement.

A spokesperson for the Maryland State Police informed WJLA that they are probing into how Ballard supposedly accessed the marked police car.

Ballard’s trial is currently scheduled to begin September 24, according to online court records.
