A Brazilian influencer has been taken into custody after allegedly orchestrating her own kidnapping in a bid to increase her social media following, according to authorities. The plot reportedly unfolded without her husband’s knowledge, who was also allegedly taken hostage.
Monniky Fraga, a content creator with 48,000 followers, was arrested on Tuesday, nearly a year after recounting a harrowing tale to her audience. She claimed that she and her husband, Lucas, were accosted by three armed assailants near their home, abducted, and held in a forest while being forced to pay a ransom.
While Fraga asserted that her husband was assaulted during the ordeal, authorities now suspect that the entire incident was a fabrication designed to garner media attention. This revelation came to light following a police investigation, as reported by the Brazilian news outlet Globo.
