Police in New York were searching Saturday for a woman wearing red, white and blue who is accused of fatally stabbing her mother in Queens, authorities said.
The suspect, 30, allegedly slashed her 59-year-old mother, Ausha Ramlakhan, in the neck and shoulder with a sharp object around 3:30 p.m. in South Ozone Park, according to the NYPD.
A relative later found Ramlakhan bleeding inside the home on 128th Street near Liberty Avenue and dialed 911, police said.
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Investigators said the suspect ran off on foot and was last spotted wearing blue yoga pants, a red tank top and white sneakers.
Detectives were later seen outside the residence, including one carrying an evidence bag as investigators photographed the scene, video showed.
Police said a possible motive had not been immediately determined.
NYPD statistics show major crime in the 106th Precinct is up 7% so far this year, rising to 782 incidents from 730 during the same period last year.
The killing appeared to be the precinct’s first homicide so far this year, the data show. There was one at the same point last year.
Felony assault has increased by 18% so far this year to 206 from 175, robbery is up by about 17% to 101 from 86 and grand larceny by 16% from 247 to 286, the precinct data show.
Rape is up to 11 from seven so far this year in the precinct, the data show, but rape increases citywide have been attributed to a change in the crime’s legal definition.
