Australian basketball star Liz Cambage could be stood down from the Tokyo Olympics after reports emerged that she was involved in a number of incidents in the team’s pre-game camp in Las Vegas.

Cambage, 29, was understood to be involved in a physical altercation during a warm up match against Nigeria, which resulted in an episode of verbal abuse.

The four-time WNBA All-Star has reportedly also broken team protocols to socialise in Las Vegas, where she has been a standout with the Aces in the WNBA.

Additionally, team officials are believed to be investigating another possible incident.

If Cambage is stood down from the Games in Tokyo, it would be a significant blow for the Opals.

She is the widely regarded as team’s best and key player.

The Opals named an 11-player squad for the Olympics, which would be further reduced if Cambage was rubbed out for ill discipline.

Cambage’s erratic behaviour has infuriated teammates and team officials, which could result in her missing the Games in Japan.

On Friday morning, Australian Olympic Committee vice-chairman Ian Chesterman confirmed Basketball Australia was looking into the matter.

‘Basketball Australia is investigating the issue and we have no further information,’ he said.

‘It will be a matter for them to work out with Basketball Australia to see if there is any resulting decision that needs to be made.’

Last month Cambage accused Aussie basketball legend Andrew Bogut of lying and having a ‘f*****g weird’ obsession with her.

The pair were embroiled in an extraordinary Twitter spat over her complaints about a ‘whitewashed’ promotional photo for the Olympics.

Bogut downplayed the feud, but Cambage lashed out at her basketball counterpart on social media.

‘Wow. I do not have your number, I have literally never spoken to you away from a BA event. This obsession is just f*****g weird. And my name still in your mouth…… get a f*****g life,’ she captioned a screenshot of Bogut’s comments.

Cambage initially threatened to boycott the Tokyo Olympics over a perceived lack of racial diversity in the Australian Olympic Committee’s promotional photos.

She later backflipped and confirmed she would play in her third Olympics – but that is now up in the air.
