Oregon cop ruins career after sex with woman in crash incident

A police officer has been fired after admitting to having sex with a drunk woman who had just crashed her car.

Court records indicate that David McVeigh, 35, of Estacada, pled no contest to first-degree misconduct after investigators verified he forced sexual contact with a woman he was meant to assist in 2019.

While the plea is equivalent to a guilty verdict, McVeigh arranged a deal that permits him to maintain a clean record if he completes 150 hours of volunteer work by 2026.

On November 24, 2019, McVeigh was dispatched to help a woman who had drunkenly driven her car off the road.

He arranged a tow, then drove her back to her apartment – where he asked her for oral sex, according to Judge Todd Van Rysselberghe’s case summary.

The woman later told police she agreed, thinking she might avoid a ticket by complying.

The event was not disclosed until 2021, when the woman was detained in a domestic violence case and revealed she had been coerced two years earlier by a Milwaukie officer named ‘David.’

Detectives initially struggled to find her for an interview, leaving the case dormant.

McVeigh reappeared in September 2022 when he was accused of stalking a woman in the parking lot of Spirit Mountain Casino at 3 a.m. during a police training session.

He denied wrongdoing, claiming he had simply approached the woman and her father to ask if they wanted to buy a rare bottle of liquor.

However, then-Milwaukie Police Chief Luke Strait stated that the behavior was ‘immediately concerning’ considering the previous allegations and subsequently placed him on leave.

The renewed attention prompted investigators to track down the crash victim, who still had McVeigh’s personal cell number.

Dispatch records corroborated her account, leading to a formal charge in early 2023.

McVeigh, who joined the Milwaukie force in 2016, was fired in March 2023 shortly after the charge was filed.

Incredibly, just two years after the 2019 crash incident, the Milwaukie Police Department was still publicly praising McVeigh.

In a 2021 Facebook post, the agency praised his ‘extra mile’ service, noting how he had spent his shifts removing tree limbs, delivering firewood to elderly residents, and even clearing a blocked roadway.

The post gushed: ‘Common actions – Uncommonly seen. Nice work Officer!’

That glowing tribute has since aged awkwardly, given McVeigh’s quiet misconduct plea and subsequent firing.

In January this year, McVeigh’s plea deal was finalized: 150 hours of community service, the permanent surrender of his police license, and the promise that his case will be dismissed if he completes the work before a sentencing hearing in January 2026.

Neither McVeigh nor his attorney have commented on the case.

The Milwaukie Police Department also declined to respond.
