Chicago Cubs set to take on San Diego Padres in first MLB playoff game at Wrigley Field since 2020

CHICAGO (WLS) — It’s an exciting day on the city’s North Side.

For the first time since 2020, the Cubs are in the playoffs!

This will be the first time the Chicago Cubs have been in the playoffs since 2020.

Fans and businesses here in Wrigleyville are ready for all the playoff excitement!

The National League Wild Card Series matchup against the San Diego Padres kicks off at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday on ABC7, featuring a flyover before Game 1 begins.

Though the Cubs haven’t flown the W for a playoff game since 2017, fans on Clark Street said this ballclub has the talent for a deep playoff run.

“The energy is super high, and everyone seems to be really positive and confident that we’re going to sweep this series,” said Cubs fan Hannah Webb.

“My guy, PCA, love PCA. He’s always there making plays, and Seiya’s on a nice little home run streak. (Jogger: Let’s go baby!) There we go. Everybody’s excited,” remarked Cubs fan Kevin Connors.

The Wild Card Series against the Padres secures Wrigleyville businesses with at least two additional home games, extending the busy period around the Friendly Confines.

Sluggers Bar and Grill is preparing with additional staff and security, and they are coordinating with other local business owners to ensure neighborhood safety.

The city says it’s also prepared with its own plan to secure the area around the ballpark.

Gallagher Way opens just after 11 a.m. with gates opening at 12:08 p.m.

Watch the first two Wild Card games on ABC7 Chicago Tuesday and Wednesday.
