Last week, a jury in Indiana reached a verdict, finding a man from Madison County guilty of murdering his wife. She was discovered in an SUV next to him, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Jeremy Hinson, 49, faces 50 to 65 years in prison when he is sentenced next month, the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office said.

According to a previous report by CrimeOnline, a call to 911 had summoned deputies to a dark SUV parked behind Forrestville Cemetery on June 26, 2024. The caller noted that there were two individuals in the vehicle who did not respond when they attempted to get their attention by knocking on the window.

The authorities discovered 47-year-old Michela Hinson slumped in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot injuries. Jeremy Hinson, found in the passenger seat, initially appeared unresponsive but soon awoke and exited the vehicle.

As detailed in court filings, Jeremy had a handgun holstered in his waistband and an extra magazine in his pocket. Blood marks were observed on his forehead, eyelid, arms, hands, extending down to his ankles, according to WTHR. Michela had suffered several shots to her chest and abdomen, and investigators found spent shell casings on the driver’s side floor and beside the seat.

Jeremy Hinson was taken to a hospital for observation before he was booked into jail on a murder charge.

The court documents say that Hinson confessed to the murder to a family member who visited him in jail.

During a recorded conversation, Jeremy expressed remorse, particularly for the couple’s two sons. He reportedly said, “I feel most bad for the boys. Obviously, I wasn’t thinking right. I don’t know what happened to make me do that, but tell them I love them.”

Despite the recorded confession, Hinson pleaded not guilty and forced a trial.

Michela Hinson was a bus driver for the Anderson School Systems and the Anderson City Transportation CATS bus, according to an obituary.
