Patrick and Brittany Mahomes led the congratulations after Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift dropped the bombshell news that they are engaged.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and his pop star girlfriend set the internet ablaze on Tuesday when they announced they are getting married after a whirlwind two-year romance.

Kelce and Mahomes have long had a strong bond – both on and off the field. In recent years, Swift and the quarterback’s wife, Brittany, have grown close too.

And minutes after the stunning announcement on social media, Mahomes celebrated his teammate’s news by sharing Swift’s post alongside three love hearts.

His wife, Brittany, posted her own tribute. ‘Two of the most genuine people meet and fall in love,’ she wrote on Instagram. ‘Just so happy for these two.’

The Chiefs also reacted to the news with a heartfelt message to the couple. ‘Today is a fairytale,’ the team wrote alongside a picture of Kelce and Swift celebrating on the field. ‘Congrats to Travis and Taylor—we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!’

Kelce, Swift and the Mahomes regularly hang out away from football. They enjoyed a day at the US Open this time last year. Ahead of the 2024 season, meanwhile, it emerged that another of their double dates was among Kelce’s favorite moments of the summer.

It came in Amsterdam back in July 2024, shortly before the Chiefs returned to training camp. The Mahomes had joined Kelce in a private suite for Swift’s show in the Netherlands on July 6. 

‘We were just having fun and enjoying a dinner just like anyone else would. That’s what makes it so great,’ said Mahomes, who is opening a Kansas City steakhouse with Kelce. 

‘We don’t make it more than what it is – it’s just friendship, fellowship and enjoying everyone’s success.’

On Tuesday, Swift shared an selection of pictures showing Kelce down on one knee. Her Instagram post also included her song ‘So High School’, which she wrote about the Kansas City Chiefs great. ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,’ the pop sensation wrote.

His teammate Mike Danna spoke to the media shortly after Tuesday’s announcement. ‘Man, it’s incredible, great for them,’ the defensive end said.

‘Anytime you find that joy, happiness, it’s a beautiful thing. I just got told 30 seconds ago,’ he added with a laugh. ‘That’s a beautiful thing to see.’

The couple first went public with their relationship back in September 2023, when the singer appeared at a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium alongside Kelce’s mother, Donna.

Since that day, nearly three years ago, their romance has captivated the world. Swift has become a regular in the stands, supporting Kelce’s run to three straight Super Bowls, while the football star joined her on her wildly successful Eras tour.

He even appeared on stage during one of her shows in London. 

The couple recently gave their first joint interview – of sorts – when Swift appeared on the Kelce brothers’ hit podcast, ‘New Heights’.

The episode set a Guinness World Record for the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube. It drew a total of 1.3million viewers on August 13. The video has now amassed more than 20m.

The new record was announced by the Guinness World Record website on Tuesday – 13 days after the episode with Swift premiered. 

The 1.3million concurrent viewers also broke YouTube’s record for the most live-streamed podcast hosted on the platform – a mark previous held by Donald Trump’s appearance on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ last fall.
