Nanny boasted after murdering grandpa with screwdriver, police say

A nanny is accused of fatally attacking a grandfather with a screwdriver as he attempted to shield his granddaughter, later bragging about the brutality of the act, according to police reports.

Authorities allege that 35-year-old Samantha Rae Booth made the chilling remark, seemingly admitting to the murder of 83-year-old David Ong, which occurred last Friday.

Booth was apprehended outside the residence of Ong’s daughter, Katie, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Inside, Ong’s body was discovered in the basement, bearing multiple stab wounds.

As officers escorted her from the scene, Booth reportedly declared, “I messed him up, and yes, I did it. God, it was too easy,” as detailed by ClickOnDetroit.

The tragic event transpired after Katie had requested her elderly father to visit her home to check on her daughter, whom Booth had been looking after for the past two years.

When Ong became unreachable, Katie asked her brother-in-law, whose identity remains undisclosed, to inspect the situation at the house.

He arrived to find to find the front door of the house wide open, with noises coming from the basement.

Katie’s brother-in-law called out to Ong, but the elderly grandfather did not answer and instead he found Booth ‘manic and covered in blood’, police said.

Booth is said to have flown at the brother-in-law with a screwdriver as he went to rescue Ong’s granddaughter.

Katie’s brother-in-law grabbed the little girl Booth was supposed to be caring for, only for Booth to attack him with a screwdriver, it is claimed.

Eventually, both managed to flee with minor injures and call 911 from a neighboring property.

Cops called to the scene found that Booth had stripped her clothes off and was covered in blood, according to a police report.

She was arrested shortly after and has been charged with six felonies including murder.

According to prosecutors, police found what they believe to be psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in Booth’s purse.

Police said that Booth has no known criminal history and they have not commented on a possible motive for the horrific crime.

The arrest of Booth and her subsequent charges has left her own family shellshocked, with her brother Danny speaking with the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

Ong’s other daughter Kelly Ong Smith paid tribute to her father’s heroism on Facebook.

She described the loss of her father as ‘immeasurable’, adding that Ong was ‘a man of incredible kindness, love and faith’.

According to Ong’s obituary he leaves behind his wife Jacqueline, was the father of four and grandfather to 11.

Booth is facing six felonies including, first degree murder, second degree child abuse, assault with a dangerous weapon and three counts of assaulting a police officer.

She was due to appear in court via Zoom on Tuesday, but the hearing was held in her absence after she stripped naked in her holding cell and refused to cooperate.

After a back-and-forth with the judge, prosecution and defense she agreed to hear her charges but still refused to show herself.

Her attorney pleaded not guilty on her behalf during the hearing, with the judge denying her bond, saying she posed a ‘danger to society’.
