Robin Wright has called her move from the US to the UK ‘liberating.’
Wright is one of several Hollywood celebrities who have left the States in the Trump era, including Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O’Donnell.
The star, 59, moved to England a few years ago, where she met her British-born Australian boyfriend, Henry Smith.
‘America is a s*** show,’ the Texan-born actress declared to The Sunday Times on Saturday.
‘I love being in this country. There’s a sense of personal freedom here. People are genuinely kind. They’re truly living, not stuck in traffic, frantic on a phone call while having a sandwich. That’s representative of much of America, where it’s all about rushing, competing, and speed.’
Robin reached her breaking point with the constant home renovations by her LA neighbors: ‘Everyone’s constructing massive houses, and I’m over it all — I cherish the peace and quiet. Plus, I’ve finally met my significant other.’
It’s been almost a year since Wright encountered the 52-year-old architect in a Chilterns pub, situated near the most recent Airbnb she stayed at with her stepsister Lucinda Carmichael.
‘Henry was standing at the bar, 6ft2in, and he put his pint down, came over to me and grabbed my shoulders,’ the Here actress recalled.

The Texas-born, California-raised 59-year-old told The Sunday Times on Saturday: ‘America is a chaotic mess. I love being in this country. There’s a sense of personal freedom here. People are genuinely kind. They’re truly living, not stuck in traffic, frantic on a phone call while having a sandwich. That’s representative of much of America, where it’s all about rushing, competing, and speed.’
‘He goes, “Who the f*** are you?” And I said, “Who the f*** are you?” And that was it.’
Robin gushed: ‘He is a sweetheart and just a good, decent adult. He’s a man.’
The affectionate couple, who grew closer while battling COVID-19 together for five months, are planning to move to a rented house by the English seaside with their Labradors, Rusty and Rocky.
‘It’s liberating to be done. Be done with searching, looking and getting 60 percent of what you wanted,’ Wright explained.
‘That’s exactly what I wanted. I’m turning 60 and I’m, like, “Is this it?” I love being alone and I’ve done that many times. But I’m, like, I want to grow old with somebody, and travel and see the world.’
The Pour Les Femmes co-designer said it was ‘so relaxing’ to be ‘seen and loved for who I am’ but getting married a fourth time is absolutely out of the question: ‘No. God no. Why? That’s just unnecessary.’
Indeed, Robin filed for divorce from her third husband – Saint Laurent VIP relations manager Clément Giraudet – in 2022 after nearly four years of marriage.

Robin’s breaking point was waking up to her LA neighbors’ home renovations: ‘Everyone’s building a huge house and I’m just done with all that — I love the quiet. And I’ve met my person. Finally’

Wright has two children – daughter Dylan, 34; and son Hopper, 32 – from her on/off 13-year marriage to second ex-husband Sean Penn, which ended in 2010.
The Golden Globe winner was also previously married to her Santa Barbara castmate Dane Witherspoon, but they ended their two-year marriage in 1988.
But Robin is still ‘trying to figure it out’ England’s class system: ‘Why are you guys so obsessed with who went to this boarding school or this university? Who gives a s***?’
Wright executive produced and stars as suspicious, overprotective mother Laura in the six-episode psychological thriller The Girlfriend, which premieres September 10 on Amazon Prime Video.
‘It’s about two women fighting over the same love. It’s a tug-of-war,’ described the eight-time Emmy nominee, who directed the first three episodes.

Rosie O’Donnell revealed her shock decision to move across the pond and confirmed that she now calls Ireland home due to her political views
‘I felt like that with a couple of girls my son brought home, where I was, like, “No, this is not going to work.” And it didn’t work, thank God. You’re always going to have that intrinsic mummy radar.’
Gabbie Asher and Naomi Sheldon’s small-screen adaptation of Michelle Frances’ 2017 novel also stars Olivia Cooke, Laurie Davidson, Waleed Zuaiter, Anna Chancellor, Francesca Corney, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Karen Henthorn, Leo Suter, and Tanya Moodie.
