Sen. Rick Scott Introduces Bill to Name Washington, DC, Street ‘Charlie Kirk Patriot Way’

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has proposed a bill to rename a portion of H Street Northwest in Washington, DC, as “Charlie Kirk Patriot Way.” This initiative, if approved, would make the capital city the first federal jurisdiction to honor the late Turning Point USA founder with a street name, adding to previous recognitions in Florida.

The newly introduced Charlie Kirk Patriot Way Act, backed by Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Bernie Moreno (R-OH), and Josh Hawley (R-MO), aims to officially designate the segment of H Street Northwest between Connecticut Avenue and Vermont Avenue as “Charlie Kirk Patriot Way.” The legislation mandates the District of Columbia to place four new street signs highlighting the name change at pivotal intersections, including Connecticut Avenue, Vermont Avenue, and both ends of 16th Street Northwest.

This proposal follows Scott’s prior efforts, particularly in the Senate’s unanimous decision to pass a resolution declaring October 14, 2025 — which would have marked Kirk’s 32nd birthday — as the National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk. The resolution, passed on September 18, commemorates Kirk’s dedication to faith, free speech, and civic involvement, urging educational institutions and communities to host activities that celebrate freedom and civil conversation on this day.

Announcing the new bill, Scott characterized the street renaming as a salute to Kirk’s lifelong pursuit of encouraging civic dialogue and debate. He believes this gesture will symbolize Kirk’s ideology of defending one’s beliefs in a peaceful, meaningful, and proud manner.

Senator Blackburn described Kirk as “a patriot whose firm adherence to American principles and freedom of expression will always be remembered,” while Moreno highlighted Kirk’s initial initiative to involve young Americans in politics, which evolved “into a movement that reshaped the nation’s trajectory.”

This street naming proposition adds to the array of national and local honors for the conservative figure. In Florida, Lake County commissioners unanimously decided to rename a portion of Wellness Way to “Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway,” marking the first local decision in the US to commemorate Kirk after his assassination on September 10 at a Utah Valley University event.

Additional honors have followed across the country. New College of Florida has announced plans to erect a statue of Kirk on campus, and Florida officials are considering several other memorial designations. Congressional resolutions and proposals introduced by lawmakers, including efforts to mint commemorative coins, have also sought to preserve Kirk’s legacy.
