Kevin De Bruyne and Pep Guardiola were caught in animated exchange after the midfielder was substituted in the second half of Manchester City’s draw with Liverpool.

The 32-year-old had an uncharacteristically quiet evening at Anfield, with the defending champions coming under intense pressure from Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Guardiola opted to shake things up after the hour and the Belgian appeared to be less than pleased with something that had gone on.

However, the home side gave as good as they got, enjoying several chances before equalising from the spot after Ederson had fouled Darwin Nunez.

The City change came after another period of dominance for the Reds, with Guardiola deciding to bring on Jeremy Doku and Mateo Kovacic for the Belgian and Julian Alvarez.

De Bruyne continued his protestations even after he was seated on the City bench, requiring his manager to attempt further appeasement.

The thrilling contest ended in a stalemate, as neither side were able to find that elusive winner despite chances at both ends.

The result means that Arsenal remain top of the Premier League after their victory against Brentford on Saturday. The top three sides are separated by just one point.
