Rosie O’Donnell Reveals the Trump Supporter She Still Calls a Friend

Rosie O’Donnell’s long-running clash with President Donald Trump is no secret, and the comedian says Trump supporters are virtually absent from her inner circle — with one notable celebrity exception.

The former talk show host, 64, revealed that she remains close to country music star Wynonna Judd, even though Judd’s political views lean toward Trump.

“Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years and she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up,” O’Donnell said during Wednesday’s episode of The Tangle with Kyle Ridley.

O’Donnell acknowledged that she doesn’t “really have any people in my life who support Trump,” adding that she believes “it would be very difficult” to maintain those relationships — but said Judd stands apart.

“I kind of give her a grace in a way,” O’Donnell explained, days after also speaking about a “horrifying” sex scene with Cynthia Nixon in the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That. “She’s had so much in her life with her mom taking her own life, just the complicated nature of her upbringing, and I really love her and I care about her and for some reason I’m able to put that aside when we interact.

“But aside from Wy, I can’t think of anyone else in my life who supports him and I don’t understand the people who do.”

While Judd, 62, hasn’t publicly declared her political preferences, she visited the White House during Trump’s first term in 2019 to advocate for criminal justice reform and talk about prison reintegration initiatives.

In 2017, she distanced herself from anti-Trump remarks made by her sister Ashley Judd, posting on social media, ‘I am not my sister’s keeper. The end.’

Ashley had recited a scorching anti-Trump poem I Am A Nasty Woman written by 19-year-old Nina Donovan at the Women’s March on Washington.

O’Donnell’s long-running feud with the President of the United States was sparked in 2006 when she was a co-host on The View. She criticized The Apprentice star for threatening to strip Tara Conner of her Miss USA title following controversies involving underage drinking and cocaine use.

The outspoken TV personality then called Trump a hypocrite given his own marital upheavals and questioned how he became a ‘moral compass for 20-year-olds in America.’

‘Donald, sit and spin, my friend. I don’t enjoy him,’ she added.

Trump fired back, calling her ‘a loser’ and ‘out of control.’

The public insults and attacks exchanged between the two have yet to die down. Last year Trump said on social media that he was ‘giving serious consideration to taking away her citizenship’ after O’Donnell moved to Ireland shortly before his second inauguration.

‘His cruelty is so blatant, his criminal behavior is so obvious, his misogyny, his racism, his homophobia,’ O’Donnell said on the podcast. ‘He’s just a very dark spirit and I don’t know why that’s not obvious to the world.

‘I think it’s obvious outside the US because in Ireland not one person has said to me that they like him. People come up to me and go, “Rosie, I’d like to buy you a pint because we hate him too.” And I’m like, “Fantastic.”‘

She added: ‘The stress level in the United States is so high compared to Ireland. There’s a peace that I found there that is very healing for me.’

In an interview with Variety last month, O’Donnell lodged another stinger in Trump’s direction, calling him ‘the worst thing that ever happened to our country.’
