Ophelia Lovibond has wowed fans with her uncanny resemblance to Carrie Johnson in pictures released from the upcoming Sky drama This England.

And appearance isn’t the only thing the actress, 36, has in common with the  Prime Minister’s wife and Conservative comms guru she’s set to play.

Like Carrie, Ophelia grew up in a single parent household in west London. The women, born just two years apart, both went to fee-paying schools only half a mile apart and have a flurry of high-profile and showbiz friends.

But unlike Carrie, Ophelia is no fan of Boris and has often shared pro-Labour posts of her Instagram urging her followers to not back Tories and save ‘our beloved NHS’ and ‘to end child poverty and homelessness’.

Despite her left-wing views, Ophelia is often seen rubbing shoulders with a posse of A-list pals and aristocrats,  including Jim Carey, Gemma Chan and Lily James.

However, she grew up worlds away from the glitz of Hollywood and the high stakes machinations of Number 10.

The rising showbiz performer, best known for her roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Minx and W1A,  struck out her own path to forge a successful acting career.

She grew up with a single mother and two siblings in a housing estate in Shepherd’s Bush.

Her mum worked as a prison psychologist at Wormwood Scrubs and aged 13 Ophelia bagged a scholarship to a highly selective private Upper Latymer School in Hammersmith, just a 10 minute walk from where Carrie herself was educated at Godolphin and Latymer school.

Despite her posh sounding name, the actress didn’t come from a wealthy family – previously revealing her upper-middle-class accent developed when she was surrounded by posh pals at her fee-paying school.

But she clearly got a taste for high society, and is now often seen in the front row fashion shows with the likes of Emma Weymouth, Lady Kitty Spencer and Mary Charteris.

Her success hasn’t changed her socialist views though.

Despite playing a Conservative, Ophelia has made no secret of her disdain for the Tory government, criticising Cabinet minister and Leader of the House Jacob Rees-Mogg ahead of the 2019 general election, after images emerged of him lounging on the front benches of the House of Commons.

‘This behaviour is an absolute disgrace,’ she wrote at the time.

‘Jacob Rees-Mogg’s slouching across the front benches during one of the most consequential debates in parliamentary history is the physical embodiment of arrogance, entitlement, disrespect and contempt for parliament and the People.’

She’s also been a vocal supporter of refugees, working with the charity Choose Love and often posts about LGBTQ+ and Women’s Rights to her 66,000 Instagram followers.

In one post head of the October  2019 election, she used Jeremy Corbyn’s slogan as she urged followers to ‘vote for the many, not the few’.

And it's not only her career that's taking off. It's been a busy year for the actress, who married her partner of seven year Henry Pettigrew, in a romantic ceremony in London two weeks ago.

She also has dozens of actor friends, including Nick Frost, fellow Marvel star Gemma Chan, the Crown’s Vanessa Kirby and Lillie James.

Ophelia is also often pictured with Laura Whitmore, and was close friends with Caroline Flack, who died in February 2020.

She’s paid tribute to the late presenter many times, on the anniversary of her death last year she wrote: ‘We found each other mutually hilarious. We just loved making each other laugh and that seemed to be so much of what our friendship was. She was such an enormous person in my life and it’s that laughter – you feel that absence very keenly.

‘Because of the way Caroline died, it is very easy to let that overshadow everything else. But her life counted for so much more than the way she died, and those are the things that I’ve been thinking about.’

Her other famous friends include Dominic Cooper, Tinie Tempah, Henry Booth and Will Poulter.

Ophelia grew up on a housing estate in west London ‘under the floodlights’ of QPR football stadium – previously revealing that while her parents were well spoken, they weren’t well off financially.

She lived with her mother, who worked as a Chartered Psychologist at a Category B men’s prison, her two siblings and various children her mother fostered over the years.

As a child she attended the Young Blood theatre company, alongside Carey Mulligan,  in Hammersmith, and showed a keen interest in theatre while at school.

At 13, she bagged herself a place at Latymer Upper School, a public school which has approximately 1,200 pupils and accepts less than 10 per cent of applicants.
