Sven-Goran Eriksson has tragically passed away at the age of 76 following a battle with cancer. In light of the tragic news, Mail Sport has taken a look back at Eriksson’s life in pictures

Eriksson moved into coaching and his first major job was with Benfica, with Eriksson having coached the Portuguese side in two spells between 1982 and 1984 and 1989 and 1992

The 76-year-old was in charge of the Golden Generation, which included Wayne Rooney

England were knocked out in the last eight in all three tournaments during Eriksson’s tenure

Eriksson was known to enjoy a particularly close relationship with Beckham, with the pair pictured above in 2002 visiting No 10 Downing Street to meet with Prime Minister Tony Blair

Eriksson’s love life often dominated the news during his time as England boss, with the Swede cheating on Dell’Olio (pictured with Eriksson in 2002) with Ulrika Jonsson and Faria Alam 

Eriksson was hugely popular but couldn’t lead England to success and left his role after the 2006 World Cup (pictured during the quarter-final defeat to Portugal at that tournament)

The Swede returned to club management a year later, spending a season in charge of Man City

His last club job in England was with Leicester City, who he led from October 2010 to 2011

Eriksson also endured a short stint as Notts County’s director of football from 2009-2010

He returned to international football, leading Mexico, Ivory Coast (above) and the Philippines
