Sydney Sweeney is unrecognizable in the first-look trailer for the upcoming biopic Christy.
The actress — who turns 28 on Friday — made a remarkable transformation into boxing legend Christy Martin, piling on 30lbs for the role.
Soundtracked by Stevie Nicks’ 1981 hit Edge of Seventeen, the teaser shows Sydney as fans have never seen her before.
She appears noticeably more muscular and often bruised and unkempt in the intense scenes that illustrate Christy’s ascent to becoming one of the pioneering female boxers.
The Euphoria sensation sports several different hairstyles, beginning with a short brunette mullet in the opening B-roll.
And the performer shares the screen with Ben Foster, who plays Christy’s trainer-turned-husband Jim.

With her usual blonde hair and glamour set aside, Sydney embodies the role with a haunting performance that captures Christy’s battles both inside and outside the boxing ring.
These obstacles involve dealing with family issues, identity questions, and a troubled relationship with Jim, which hits a breaking point in a tense moment where he threatens, ‘If you leave me I’ll kill you.’
The film made its world premiere to critical acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival last week.
Sydney told Deadline about putting on weight, ‘I absolutely loved it. I truly felt Christy’s power as I transformed.
‘I really enjoyed the opportunity to train and work alongside amazing boxing coaches, weight trainers, and nutritionists who helped me prepare for the role of Christy.’
To achieve her metamorphosis, the Hollywood fixture underwent an staunch training regimen that involved three workouts/day for three months.
At TIFF, she appeared with the boxing legend, revealing to the press that her preparation entailed consuming ‘plenty of Chick-fil-A, lots of Smucker’s, numerous milkshakes,’ along with ‘a significant number of protein shakes.’
The siren added, ‘But it was incredible being able to completely embody such a powerful woman. I felt even stronger. It was truly inspiring.’
