A Texas man who previously drew viral attention online as a so-called “hot felon” after his mugshot circulated has suffered a devastating injury after being run over by a police cruiser.
Adonis Porter, 25, had just left a business in Lubbock, roughly five hours from Dallas, on June 6 when he was hit by a Lubbock Police Department patrol vehicle, KAMC reported.
Police had been dispatched to the area near Preston Smith International Airport at about 5am following a call about a man, later identified as Porter, who was allegedly intoxicated and causing problems with staff members, the outlet reported.
As officers were responding, however, one patrol vehicle struck Porter after he had exited the business and was walking along Interstate 27.
Officials said officers were heading to check on Porter rather than to arrest him, and they began providing emergency assistance at the scene until paramedics arrived and transported him to a hospital.
Porter remains hospitalized with severe injuries, including multiple broken bones and fractures, as well as the loss of one leg, according to his older brother, who shared the update Wednesday on a GoFundMe page.
“He’s fighting every day to recover, but the road ahead will be long and filled with medical treatments, rehabilitation, prosthetics, and other unexpected expenses,” his brother, Ceazar Jaramillo Porter, wrote. “Our family is doing everything we can, but we can’t do this alone.”
The life-altering crash happened almost two years after Porter was arrested by the same police department on allegations of possessing less than two ounces of marijuana, displaying a fictitious motor vehicle registration and speeding, according to an earlier report.
