Australian musician Tones and I was left in tears on Tuesday night, after fans discovered which Port Macquarie hotel she was staying at and started a huge social media campaign to get her to play live.

The 26-year-old was staying at the Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges when the campaign started on Facebook, with multiple fans encouraging others to bombard her with Instagram requests to perform at the hotel.

A well-placed source told Daily Mail Australia that after the social media campaign blew up, the piling pressure on the Dance Monkey singer, 28, to perform caused her to burst into tears and retreat to her room.

Many fans rocked up to the hotel at 7:30pm and were left disappointed when they couldn’t see her sing, perhaps after the songstress played multiple impromptu busking gigs across the country over the past few weeks.

On Tuesday evening, the singer – whose real name is Toni Watson – took to Instagram to reveal she wouldn’t be performing live, writing: ‘I’m not playing tonight. Equipment issues sorry.’

Tones got her start as a busker, attracting large crowds for her street-side performances.

Before finding fame, she slept in her van and earned money singing on the streets of Melbourne and Byron Bay.

She may now be a superstar, but only a few years ago she was selling $10 CDs from her makeshift stage.

The ARIA Award winning star announced in December that she was set to go on a busking tour across Australia.

She renewed her Byron Bay busking licence in November.
