Trad wife dishes out her secrets to a thriving traditional marriage

A self-described traditional wife has gained attention for sharing the stringent guidelines she adheres to in her marriage, which include a strict prohibition against spending time alone with men other than her husband.

Twenty-year-old Savanna Stone and her husband Noah, 23, openly practice traditional gender roles in their youthful marriage. Noah holds a full-time position as a landscaping manager, while Savanna remains at home to oversee the household.

In their dynamic, Noah is seen as the ‘head of the household’ and has the final say on major decisions.

While that setup may raise eyebrows among modern couples, Savanna says her husband’s take-charge attitude actually eases her anxiety.

She insists it’s not as rigid as it sounds – the two thoroughly discuss each decision before Noah lays down the law.

Their rules for marriage align with the traditional values the couple shares, but they also have a modern flair.

Among these rules, they assert, is one for the ‘respect’ of their relationship: The couple never meets with friends of the opposite sex alone or even messages them without informing each other.

They feel the rules work for them and keep their relationship healthy.

‘If I need to text one of [my or Noah’s male friends], I’ll just throw them in a group chat with my husband out of respect,’ Savanna, a content creator from Jacksonville, Florida, who films from home, told the Daily Mail.

‘It’s nothing a spouse can’t be involved in, and I wouldn’t hang out with them alone – that would be kind of odd. We all hang out together.’

Savanna says she’s always known what she wanted in a man and has had a list of those characteristics from the age of 15.

‘I wanted a gentleman,’ she said. ‘Very charismatic, someone who was going to provide for me.’

Savanna met Noah after a mutual friend posted her photo on Instagram – he slid into her DMs, and just a year later, in March 2024, the couple tied the knot.

From the start, they were on the same page about what they wanted in a marriage.

Savanna admits that some of their marriage rules might be seen as ‘controversial’ by the modern woman - including not splitting chores 50/50, sticking to the traditional model of the husband as breadwinner and the wife as homemaker, avoiding one-on-one interactions or texts with the opposite sex and letting Noah have the final say in major decisions

‘We make decisions together, but at the end of the day, in our faith, my husband is head of the household, Savanna explained.

‘He doesn’t boss me around, but it takes the anxiety off me. It takes the pressure off me to make these decisions.

‘People think it’s a power struggle – it makes it much easier. It’s a peaceful dynamic.’

In line with their traditional values, the couple also doesn’t believe in splitting chores equally.

‘I don’t believe in 50/50 – some days I’m at 30 percent capacity. Sometimes you have to show up more for other people,’ Savanna said.

Though, she clarifies, ‘He’s the main provider, I make the house a home.’

In general, Savanna takes care of the house, while Noah does the yard work.

They decided on what chores they were each going to undertake before getting married, taking the SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) assessment to decide.

Savanna, who is a content creator, also said they have a strict no-snooping-through-phones policy, emphasizing that they strive to be honest in their relationship and check in when their spouse is feeling vulnerable or suspicious

The pair also share a bank account and are transparent about their finances.

‘I believe that when you get married, it all becomes one bank account,’ Savanna said, adding that ‘we only use the term “our money”.

‘It’s so important to make financial decisions together.’

The couple also follows a rule of waiting 24 to 48 hours before making any big purchases, and they always run it by each other first.

‘It’s not asking but advising,’ she explained. ‘I’ll say, “What do you think of this shirt? Is it cute enough to spend this money on?”‘

The couple also won’t shy away from being brutally honest with each other.

‘It’s better to have an uncomfortable conversation than to have resentment for five to 10 years and then explode.’

The pair also shares their locations with each other, but they draw the line at going through their spouse’s phone.

‘If we felt we needed to, then we’d talk to each other first,’ Savanna said, ‘we made that pact.’

‘We follow traditional roles as much as possible. We always check in with each other. We’ll ask, “What can I do to be better for you?”

‘It’s a chance to be honest with each other.’

The creator laid out her relationship guidelines for the Daily Mail in our exclusive interview.

Savanna’s rules:

  1. Her husband is head of the household and has final say on decisions
  2. They don’t meet up or text friends of the opposite sex alone
  3. Money is ‘our money’
  4. Wait 24 hours before a big purchase and consult the other person
  5. Never call each other partner: ‘To me, partners sounds like we’re in a law firm together. He’s my husband.’
  6. She doesn’t believe in 50/50 – her husband is the provider and Savanna stays home
  7. They have set chores/traditional roles
  8. They must share phone locations with each other
  9. Never go through each other’s phones
