Woman and man are charged after mother, 30, was shot dead on night out

Two individuals now face charges following the tragic shooting of an ‘entirely innocent’ mother in Sheffield on Monday morning.

Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old digital creator and photographer, lost her life after being shot near the One Four One bar in the city center around 2:45 am.

The incident occurred after a street altercation, which Shanice was not part of.

Authorities have charged Jemele Rhone, 30, and Deiryen Dyce, 32, in connection with Brookes’s death. They are scheduled to appear in Sheffield Magistrates’ Court this Friday.

Rhone, residing on Outram Road, Sheffield, faces charges of murder, firearm possession, and possession of criminal property. Dyce, from Ellesmere Road North, Sheffield, is charged with assisting an offender, possessing ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property.

South Yorkshire Police reported that a 30-year-old man initially arrested on suspicion of murder has been released and is no longer under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, the senior investigating officer, said the mother-of-one was ‘an entirely innocent bystander who should’ve been able to enjoy a night out in our city without the fear that she wouldn’t come home safely’.

He added: ‘Shanice’s family, including her young son, now face the harrowing reality that they will never get to see her again.

‘Shanice was also due to graduate from university, a reflection of her determination, ambition and the bright future ahead of her.’

Her LinkedIn showed she had been studying photography, videography and graphic design for a three-year bachelor’s degree at The Sheffield College since September 2023 and was due to finish this month.
