A tragic sledding accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl in Texas after she was pulled across the snow by a Jeep Wrangler. The incident took place during what was meant to be a day of fun and laughter among friends in the Frisco area, roughly 45 minutes away from Dallas.

Elizabeth Marie Angle, the young girl who lost her life, was out enjoying the snowy weather with her friends on a Sunday afternoon. She and another 16-year-old girl were riding together on a sled, pulled by a Jeep driven by an unnamed 16-year-old boy.

The joyride turned into a nightmare as the sled, being towed on Majestic Gardens Drive—a local residential street—suddenly veered and collided with a curb before crashing into a tree around 2:30 p.m., according to accounts provided to CBS News by witnesses.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, quickly arrived at the scene to find both girls suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, Elizabeth Marie Angle tragically did not survive. The other girl remains in critical condition, battling severe injuries.

When police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, both teenage girls had life-threatening injuries.

After the two were rushed to the hospital, Angle sadly succumbed to her injuries. The other teenage girl is in critical condition.

On Monday, Angle’s mother took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking news about her daughter.

‘It is with deep despair and utter shock that Brian and I announce the passing of our beautiful 16 year old girl, Elizabeth Marie Angle,’ Megan Taylor Angle said alongside a beautiful image of her late daughter in a coral colored dress.

‘She was a bright light, a fun spirit, a brave soul. We loved her so much. She just got a car and a license and had her whole life ahead of her.

‘It was all taken away so abruptly in a sledding accident yesterday. Life is fleeting and precious. I take comfort that she had people helping her till the end.

‘We will never be the same and never forget how much love she brought to our family. Please lift her up in prayer,’ her grieving mother added.

Mark Fischer, a local who lives in the neighborhood, said he saw the Jeep pulling the girls along just before tragedy struck.

‘I saw a Jeep turning off of one of the streets here when I was walking my dog,’ Fischer told CBS News.

‘And there were two girls sledding behind the vehicle, being pulled. And the Jeep got accelerated really quickly, and the girls started screaming. I don’t know if it was from having fun or what.

‘And then I lost sight of them as they kind of came around the corner and that was the last I heard,’ Fischer said, adding that from what he saw, he believes the vehicle’s speed and icy roads played a factor in the accident.

‘From what I saw, the acceleration, especially when it’s ice like this… to be going that fast and, you know, a sled can’t stop,’ he said.

The investigation into the fatal sledding accident remains ongoing, the Frisco Police Department said.

When contacted by the Daily Mail, a spokesperson with the Frisco Police Department said: ‘We are working with the DA’s office to evaluate any potential criminal charges.’

The Daily Mail contacted the Denton County District Attorney’s Office for comment.

Angle has been remembered as a ‘strong’ and courageous soccer player by her coach.

Luis Ramos took to Facebook with an emotional poem in honor of Angle.

‘Elizabeth Angle — FC Dallas 2009G #3 She played center back— the place where courage lives. Where pressure comes fast, and fear has no room to stay,’ he wrote.

‘She was the last line. The calm voice. The steady step when the game felt heavy. She knew what it meant to stand her ground. To take the hit. To protect what mattered. When her ankle broke and surgery followed, the field went quiet—but her spirit didn’t.

‘Healing tested her patience. Pain tested her faith. But Elizabeth chose resilience. Again. And again. She came back stronger, not just in body, but in heart.

And now… though the field feels different, though the back line feels empty, we believe this: God called her home, not in defeat, but in victory. Still guarding. Still strong. Now standing watch from higher ground.

‘Elizabeth—our defender. Our teammate. Forever part of us,’ Luis added.
