Former 5 star quarterback DJ Lagway officially signs with Baylor Football

Baylor University has made a significant addition to its football team by securing the commitment of former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway, a player with deep-rooted ties to the school.

WACO, Texas — Baylor football enthusiasts can finally celebrate as DJ Lagway, a highly-touted quarterback, has committed to joining the Bears. This announcement ends weeks of speculation and adds a major asset to the team for the 2026 season.

Lagway arrives in Waco with two years of eligibility left in the NCAA, offering Baylor both immediate reinforcement and future reliability at the quarterback position.

Speculation about Lagway’s potential move to Baylor gained momentum after he was seen at a Baylor men’s basketball game against Iowa State, seated next to head coach Dave Aranda. This appearance fueled chatter among college football analysts.

The move to Baylor is more than just a strategic decision for Lagway; it’s a homecoming of sorts. His father, Derek Lagway, played as a running back for Baylor from 1997 to 2001, creating a legacy and personal connection to the university that undoubtedly influenced DJ’s choice.

Physically imposing at 6-foot-3 and 247 pounds, Lagway brings impressive on-field credentials. In his latest season with Florida, he recorded 2,264 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and completed 62.2 percent of his passes, showcasing his strong potential to boost Baylor’s offensive lineup.

He also led the SEC with 14 interceptions, a statistic that reflects both the volume of responsibility he carried and the challenges faced by a Florida team that finished the season 4–8.

For Baylor, Lagway represents a fresh start and a potential cornerstone as the program looks to reassert itself in the Big 12.

His blend of size, arm strength, and experience at the Power Four level makes him one of the most intriguing additions of the offseason.
