Donald Trump shares footage of King Charles 'ignoring' fainting worker

Donald Trump has posted an edited video of King Charles that appears to show the monarch ignoring a worker who fainted — a misleading cut seemingly designed to cast the US President in a more compassionate light.

The altered footage, shared on Mr Trump’s Truth Social account yesterday, shows an Asda employee collapsing in front of the King.

In the shortened version, Charles appears to place a hand in his pocket before walking away from the scene.

But the full video tells a different story. During the visit to Asda’s distribution centre in Bristol, Charles can be seen moving to help and trying to catch the employee as he fell.

The King then stayed nearby while the man received medical assistance, before the two resumed their conversation once the employee had recovered.

Later in the original footage, the worker is seen thanking King Charles for his concern and help during the incident.

Mr Trump used the six-year-old clip as part of a montage showing world leaders apparently ignoring people in distress or behaving disrespectfully.

By contrast, the video presents the US President saluting soldiers, greeting police officers and appearing as an attentive husband, all set to Christina Perri’s song A Thousand Years.

The three-minute video was posted yesterday, on Labour Day in the United States, and claims to depict ‘the side of Trump the media doesn’t show you’.

In addition to Charles, former US presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama and President Macron of France are portrayed in a negative light.

Mr Macron is shown walking past a ceremonial guard who collapsed outside the Élysée Palace, while Mr Biden appears to look at his watch during a ceremony.

Mr Obama is seen giving his so-called ‘latte salute’ to US marines as he steps off the presidential helicopter while holding a cup of coffee in his hand.

It is not clear whether the US president, who considers himself a good friend of the King, was aware of the video’s implication.

Mr Trump has long been an enthusiastic supporter of the Royal Family and has visited the UK on a state visit twice.

Last week, the US president said he had had a ‘good relationship’ with the King and criticised the decision of Harry and Meghan to move back to the UK from California.

Mr Trump said: ‘I’m happy about it.’

‘I was not a fan,’ he added, noting that he had a ‘very good relationship with the Queen and with [King] Charles’.

‘I thought they treated the Royal Family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it,’ Mr Trump told reporters of Harry and Meghan. ‘I didn’t like the way she acted.’

‘I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles,’ Trump said of Meghan’s behavior and the couple’s decision to step back from their royal duties six years ago.

‘I don’t know, maybe I’m different. I wouldn’t have taken them back,’ Mr Trump said, before adding: ‘If I were the Royal Family, I would not have taken them back.’

An Asda spokesman previously said of Charles’s visit to the distribution centre: ‘We were delighted to welcome the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall to our Avonmouth depot yesterday as part of their celebration of the amazing efforts of key workers during the pandemic.

‘The magnitude of the moment was a little much for one of our colleagues, who briefly fainted, but after taking a few minutes to recover himself he returned to continue his tour and reassure everyone he was absolutely fine.

‘He handled the event like a pro – and we’re grateful to him and all our colleagues for their dedication.’
