Donald Trump is reportedly weighing a major military assault on Iran, with the operation potentially taking place after the US midterm elections.
Two unidentified US officials told CNN that any action would be broader than previous strikes, targeting Iranian energy infrastructure as well as nuclear and military sites.
According to the outlet, the Department of War has been discreetly moving additional troops into the Middle East. The personnel are reportedly prepared to begin an operation “within 96 hours of receiving” an order from the president.
“It will be a big effort,” one official told CNN, while cautioning that an attack could happen at any point. However, the official said the most likely timing would be after November’s midterm elections.
Our News Outlet has contacted the White House for comment.
The reported preparations follow remarks Trump made Saturday, when he told reporters that there was “a possibility” he could order another strike on Iran.
“There’s also a possibility we’ll have a nice big beautiful agreement,” he added.
Trump also reaffirmed his backing for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week. He urged Israelis to vote for the incumbent on Tuesday, saying it would allow them to “finish the job” in Iran.

“When you go to the Polls please remember that Bibi has been an outstanding warrior prime minister!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Israel was called the little satan, with the United States being called the big satan, by some very evil people,” he continued.
“There can no longer be the chant heard around the world of ‘Death to America, death to Israel,’ and there won’t be.”

Trump had previously issued a lengthy endorsement of Netanyahu, describing him as “strong, brave and brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition.”
“Bibi Netanyahu will never let you down,” he added.
Israelis are due to vote Tuesday in the country’s first national election since Hamas launched its October 7, 2023, attack. The contest is widely viewed as a referendum on Netanyahu’s leadership.

The reported plans emerge as conditions across the Middle East grow increasingly dangerous for US personnel.
In an unclassified memo last week, intelligence officials warned that Iran had “substantially increased efforts to target US personnel.”
The October 23 memo was sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who said the information had been received ‘through various channels,’ though he did not elaborate.
‘The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against US citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries,’ Clayton wrote in the one-page memo, which was first reported by Axios.
A US official confirmed the memo to Our News Outlet on Saturday afternoon.
In response to a possible escalation from Iran, the US has adjusted staffing at multiple American embassies in the Middle East, including Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
The US ordered non-emergency government employees and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
