Trump confirms GOP will hold 'midterm convention' in  Dallas in September

President Trump said Tuesday that Republicans will stage a rare “midterm convention” in Dallas on Sept. 9 and 10, an event intended to energize the party ahead of the Nov. 3 elections.

Bloomberg News first reported the convention’s dates and location, noting that the gathering is being planned as a high-profile push to boost enthusiasm for GOP candidates.

“BIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas — One of my favorite places in the World,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The president framed the event as both a political rally and a celebration of his agenda. “It will be fantastic! It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event,” he wrote, adding that Republicans would mark what he called the “GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK” and highlight “the incredible successes of the American People” under the “America First Agenda,” including “NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, STRONGER BORDERS, SAFEST EVER COMMUNITIES, LOWER COSTS AND REAL AFFORDABILITY, MORE JOBS, AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE, AND SO MUCH MORE!”

Trump also claimed that “Oil Prices are dropping sharply, even as we Denuclearize Iran,” and said his administration is accomplishing goals that, in his view, political leaders had discussed for years without delivering.

Previewing the Dallas program, Trump said the convention would feature “hardworking Americans,” along with “Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators” whom he credited with helping drive what he described as the nation’s “Golden Age.” He also promised “lots of Great Entertainment,” calling the event “a RALLY like none other!”

Trump tied the gathering to the country’s upcoming semiquincentennial, writing that “America’s 250th Birthday is approaching” and that the party would use the moment to help lay “the foundation for the NEXT 250 YEARS of American Greatness.” He said Dallas would be at the center of that message on Sept. 9 and 10 as Republicans celebrate “our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future.”

“THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!” he concluded.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Republican nominee for Senate in the state, announced last week that Dallas would be the venue, but his claim was not immediately corroborated, and the date range was not provided at the time.

The two-day convention — on a Tuesday and Wednesday — is shorter than conventions in presidential election years, which typically last for four days with a full week of associated events.

Texas is expected to give Republicans a windfall of new House seats thanks to an aggressive redistricting plan this week, but Paxton faces a stiff challenge from Democrat James Talarico.
