President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States and Iran are expected to sign a peace agreement on Sunday, a development he framed as a major step toward ending months of conflict and easing broader global tensions.
According to Trump, the deal would bring an immediate change in one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes: the Strait of Hormuz. He said the waterway would be “open to all” as soon as the agreement is finalized.
The strait has been effectively closed off since the war began on February 28, after the United States carried out targeted strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader. The disruption has fueled international concern because of the route’s importance to global trade and energy supplies.
The timing of the planned signing is also notable. Trump said the agreement is set to be completed on Sunday, the same day as his 80th birthday and a UFC event being held at the White House.
Trump announced the update in a Saturday afternoon post on Truth Social, where he projected confidence about the breakthrough and highlighted what he described as a stronger relationship with Tehran than under past administrations.
“The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL. Our relationship with Iran is a much different and better one than previous Administrations have had,” Trump wrote.
However, Iran disputed the timeline with foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the deal would not be signed Sunday but ‘could take place in the coming days.’
He told Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB that the country is committed to ending the war on all fronts and discussions on its nuclear capabilities would take place during a 60 day period once the agreement is reached.

According to the New York Times, if the agreement is signed on Sunday, it is likely to be done so electronically.
Though it is highly uncommon for diplomatic agreements to be done virtually, Trump is expected to be in Washington DC on Sunday to ring in his birthday with the UFC fight outside the White House.
In his update Saturday, the president slammed predecessor President Barack Obama, stating that his administration’s deal ‘is the exact opposite’ from his and that the middle eastern country ‘no longer want a nuclear weapon.’
‘Unlike Obama’s Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in payments to them, including 1.7 Billion Dollars in green, cold cash, no money will exchange hands.
‘At the appropriate time, when all is calm, we will go in and get the Nuclear Dust, buried deep under the powerful sunken granite mountains, thanks to our beautiful B-2 Bombers and their brilliant pilots, and downblend and destroy it, whether in Iran, or the United States.
‘We look forward to working with Iran, and the entire Middle East, long into the future.
‘Hopefully, this process will all work out quickly, easily, and smoothly. If it doesn’t, we have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again!’ he concluded.
The president’s latest comment on the war in Iran comes just days after he fumed that leadership in Tehran, Iran’s capital, has leaked a copy of the impending peace deal.

Trump signaled on Thursday that Iran had agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that would extend the ongoing ceasefire for 60 days, during which the two sides could negotiate the future of Iran’s nuclear program and other specifics.
The MOU addresses Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and reportedly discusses billions in sanctions relief. ‘We’re not quite at the finish line yet, but we’re very close,’ a senior White House official said of the MOU on Friday.
But on Friday, the President lashed out on social media, saying that the leaked terms ‘have nothing to do with the terms that were agreed to.’
‘The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have nothing to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing,’ Trump wrote. ‘What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth.’
‘Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith.’
Trump also said that Iran’s drone attack on Thursday evening against Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz ‘is totally unacceptable’.
