Trump praises Tiger Woods' 'very fair' plea deal

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for Tiger Woods’ plea agreement that keeps the golf legend out of jail, calling the resolution “very fair” after Woods was accused of driving under the influence of prescription medication.

Woods was arrested in March after crashing his SUV in Florida, and authorities said he placed a direct call to Trump afterward. Police also reported finding two hydrocodone pills in the golfer’s possession.

Under the plea deal announced Wednesday, Woods will face a five-year driver’s license suspension, pay $1,000 in fines and have a record tied to a reduced reckless driving charge.

“I think he’s going to have somebody drive him. I told him that a long time ago, ‘Why do you get somebody to drive you?’ So he’s going to have somebody drive him from now on,” Trump told reporters while speaking in the Oval Office.

“I thought it was very fair… He’s just a very special guy. I’m glad that was resolved.”

Woods is currently in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, the president’s former daughter-in-law, who shares five children with Donald Trump Jr.

Trump also emphasized his personal connection to the PGA icon, saying, “I know Tiger very well. He’s a great guy. He’s unique in so many ways, and especially as an athlete, but also as a man.”

The president added that Woods has endured significant physical struggles, particularly with his back, saying, “He suffers great pain… because of his horrible back. He had, in my opinion, a bad doctor.”
