A woman from Florida has emerged as the champion in the state’s yearly python challenge, successfully capturing numerous snakes during this year’s event.

Taylor Stanberry secured the top spot by capturing 60 pythons over the 10-day contest in the Everglades, earning a grand prize of $10,000, as reported by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

This event welcomes both amateur and professional snake hunters to the Everglades in Florida, aiming to reduce the numbers of these invasive reptiles that threaten local wildlife. Contestants must catch and humanely euthanize the snakes.

Governing Board Member “Alligator Ron” Bergeron of the South Florida Water Management District remarked, “Thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida is making significant strides in eliminating invasive pythons, preserving our natural assets, and safeguarding native species,” and concluded with, “Long live the Everglades!”
