Blake Lively just proved her friendship with Taylor Swift is still very much alive and well.
Amid speculation that their friendship had cooled due to Blake’s legal issues with her It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni, the Gossip Girl alum sent a supportive nod to Taylor by endorsing her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
Lively joined a group of celebrity friends who liked Taylor’s Instagram post on October 3, celebrating the album’s release. Alongside her, other members of the Swift squad such as Brittany Mahomes and Kylie Kelce also showed their support.
Fans believe that Taylor might have addressed these friendship rumors in her music. Particularly, they are focusing on the album’s 10th track, “Cancelled!,” as a subtle reference to Blake.
In the song, Taylor expresses that she appreciates her “friends cancelled” and pledges loyalty despite any scrutiny her close friends may face.
“Did you girlboss too close to the sun? / Did they catch you having far too much fun?” she sings in the pre-chorus. “Come with me, when they see us, they’ll run / Something wicked this way comes.”
She reinforces this sentiment in the chorus: “I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal / Like my whiskey sour / And poison thorny flowers. Welcome to my underworld / Where it gets quite dark / At least you know exactly who your friends are.”
Fans were quick to line up receipts pointing toward Blake. âGirl was the face of Gucci,â one wrote on X, also referencing Blakeâs Betty Buzz brand and her recent starring role in It Ends With Us. âMight as well name drop, come on now.â
Still, itâs worth noting that Taylor hasnât confirmed who âCancelled!â is about. And given the timelineâShowgirl was written during her Eras Tour, which wrapped in December 2024, before Blake made harassment claims against Baldoniâitâs unlikely the track is connected to that ongoing saga.
Instead, Taylor has framed the song as a reflection on fame, fallout, and forgiveness.
“Having had my own experiences with mass judgment and being at the center of many dramatic, sort of scandalous moments in my career,” she told Amazon Music, âit makes me move through the world a little bit differently and when other people go through it find yourself thinking about how they’re probably gonna get smarter because of this. If they can get through it, if they can be tough enough, they can actually learn some things through this process.”
She added that she doesnât ânaturally cast people aside just because other people decide they don’t like them.â
“I make my own decisions about people,â Taylor continued, âbased on how they treat me within my life and their actions.”
