CHICAGO (WLS) — A heartbroken mother is seeking justice and change after her 31-year-old daughter was fatally shot in Chicago’s South Loop this week.

On Friday morning, Tina McMiller stood near Cermak and State, the exact location where Chicago police reported that her daughter, Romeca Meeks-Blackmon, was shot and killed during a school drop-off on Monday.

According to police, she was engaged in a physical fight with a known female suspect outside in the 2200-block of South State Street shortly after 9:05 a.m. when the suspect drew a gun and shot her in the face.

Meeks-Blackmon was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died, CPD said.

McMiller says her daughter was loving, supportive, and an amazing mother.

On Friday, leaders who joined the mother called for stricter measures against violence and the enforcement of House Bill 158, a state law acknowledging violence as a public health issue.

The suspect in the shooting was taken into custody, and Area Three detectives are investigating.

Though no charges have been made, Chicago police classified the shooting as domestic in nature. The events leading to the confrontation between the two women remain unclear.
