Jimmy Kimmel, 'Andor,' ABC News and more honored at the 2026 Peabody Awards

In an evening filled with recognition for exceptional storytelling, the 2026 Peabody Awards celebrated a diverse array of media achievements at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. From the gripping narratives of “Andor” set in the “Star Wars” universe, to the compelling local journalism covering the Los Angeles fires by ABC News, the awardees showcased the power of impactful storytelling in engaging audiences worldwide.

The Walt Disney Company stood out with an impressive haul of seven awards. Among the winners, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” received its first-ever Peabody Award in the Entertainment category. Despite a brief suspension of the show in September, host Jimmy Kimmel returned to continue entertaining his viewers. During his acceptance speech, Kimmel quipped, “Making jokes about the president in America shouldn’t win you a prize.” The late-night show continues to air on ABC, captivating audiences weeknights at 11:35|10:35c.

The Disney+ series “Andor” was also celebrated, winning an award in the Entertainment category. Set against the backdrop of the “Star Wars” universe, Season 2 of “Andor” explores themes of government resistance, suppression of peaceful protests, and the challenges faced by undocumented immigrants. Both seasons are available for streaming on Disney+.

FX’s “Dying for Sex,” another Entertainment category winner, captivated viewers with its poignant narrative. Starring Michelle Williams, the miniseries follows a woman with terminal cancer who embarks on a journey of sexual exploration. This powerful story is available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

In the News category, ABC News and KABC received accolades for their coverage of the 2025 Southern California wildfires in “Los Angeles Burning.” The comprehensive reporting provided crucial updates and highlighted the resilience of the Los Angeles community. “ABC World News Tonight” anchor David Muir remarked, “We came, and we stayed, and we continue to ask those questions. I think we’re all fueled by the strength of the people here in Los Angeles.”

Furthermore, ESPN was recognized in the Documentaries category for “Southpaw – The Life and Legacy of Jim Abbott.” This documentary chronicles the inspirational journey of professional baseball player Jim Abbott, who achieved remarkable success despite being born without a right hand. Featuring archival footage and interviews, the documentary underscores Abbott’s significant influence on young athletes with disabilities. The film is available for streaming on ESPN+ and Disney+.

In the Arts category, Questlove’s documentary, “Sly Lives! (a.k.a. The Burden of Black Genius),” was celebrated for chronicling the legacy of one of the most successful bands, Sly and the Family Stone. “Sly Lives! (a.k.a. The Burden of Black Genius)” is streaming now on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Peabody Awards recognized “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” on Disney+ for the Children’s/Youth category. Based on the comic books, the series features a 10-foot-tall red Tyrannosaurus named Devil Dinosaur and a young girl, 13-year-old Lunella from the Lower East Side, who uses her scientific skills to fight off villains.
