A longtime supporter of Joe Biden has become the third former staff member to exercise their Fifth Amendment right in front of Congress, which is examining the previous president’s mental fitness during his tenure.
Annie Tomasini, previously Biden’s deputy chief of staff, opted not to respond to inquiries during a closed session with the House Oversight Committee, which is spearheaded by Republicans. This session took place on Friday.
Tomasini chose not to provide answers regarding Biden’s mental state, his management of classified information, and the deployment of the presidential autopen during his administration.
James Comer, the Kentucky Republican Congressman and chair of the House Oversight Committee, slammed Tomasini’s refusal to answer “basic questions” about the former commander-in-chief.
“It’s unbelievable that Ms. Tomasini and others refuse to answer basic questions about President Biden’s fitness to serve,” Comer said in an X post.
“It’s apparent they would rather hide key information to protect themselves and Joe Biden than be truthful with the American people about this historic scandal.”
