A Russian drone is suspected of having crashed in a field in Poland, an action the country’s deputy prime minister termed as a “provocation” while the United States and European leaders persist in urging Moscow to cease its war in Ukraine.

The drone descended on a cornfield in the village of Osiny in the eastern Lublin province, approximately 62 miles from Poland’s border with Ukraine, as reported by Reuters.

Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also acts as defense minister, remarked that Wednesday’s event mirrored instances where Russian drones entered Lithuania and Romania and might be associated with attempts to conclude the war in Ukraine, according to the outlet.

“I was in my room at night, around midnight maybe, and I heard something just bang,” local resident Pawel Sudowski recounted to local news website Lukow.tv. “It exploded so loudly that the whole house simply shook.”

On X, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski mentioned that his ministry would lodge a protest against the airspace violation without specifying the culprit.

“Another violation of our airspace from the East underscores that Poland’s most critical mission within NATO is the defense (sic) of our own territory,” he wrote.

The incident came as the Trump administration continues to broker talks between Russia and Ukraine to end the bloody three-year conflict. On Monday, Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a group of European leaders at the White House.

On Friday, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
