A severely injured puppy, missing most of its nose and suffering from a shattered jaw, is making an incredible recovery and winning hearts along the way.
Peanut, a young shepherd-husky mix, was brought to Pasadena Humane several weeks ago after a kind passerby discovered him in Sierra Madre, in a dire state.
The poor pup was missing much of his nose, with the soft tissue of his upper muzzle gone, and his jaw both fractured and dislocated.
The cause of his injuries remains unknown.
What’s undeniable is Peanut’s determination to survive.
Shelter employees report that despite his ordeal, the little fighter has been full of wagging tails and playful energy, even as he faced one of the most unsettling cases they’ve seen.
The road back has been grueling.
With not enough skin to seal the wound, Peanutâs nose has been rebuilding itself from the inside out, a slow and delicate process.
A small stent keeps his airway open as new tissue forms, and his condition remains fragile under constant watch.
One nostril cannot be reopened, forcing the pup to adapt by breathing through his mouth, according to Pasadena Humane.
The shocking case triggered a wave of support.
Donations first topped a $2,500 goal set for his care, with Fetch Pet Insurance matching the contributions.
As Peanutâs story spread, the total skyrocketed to $23,000, crushing a later $7,000 target.
That cash is helping cover his treatment through Pasadena Humaneâs Miracle Medical Fund, which supports animals in critical condition.
Now comes the moment everyone was hoping for.
âWeâre so grateful for all of the support youâve shown tiny Peanut,â the organization posted on Instagram. âWeâre happy to report that after weeks of specialized care, Peanut is recovering well and is now available for adoption!â
After everything heâs endured, Peanutâs final hurdle is finding a home where he can finally rest easy.
