BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Marcell Dareus, a former defensive back for the University of Alabama before going on to play several years in the NFL, was arrested in Hoover on Monday night and charged with domestic violence.
Dareus, 34, is charged with domestic violence for an incident reported on Dec. 30, where he allegedly got in a fight with his girlfriend, pushing her to the ground. He is also charged with using a metal pipe to hit her car and windshield, causing an estimated $2,500 in damage.
Dareus has since been released from the Jefferson County Jail after posting $36,000 bond.
A graduate of Huffman High School in Birmingham, Dareus played for the Crimson Tide from 2008 to 2010, going on to be drafted by the Buffalo Bills. After playing for the Bills from 2011 to 2017, Dareus finished out his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing from 2017 to 2019.
The case remains under investigation.
