DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested a man on an assault warrant Monday.

On June 30, DCSO reported that they were alerted by a 911 dispatcher about an assault on a woman at a residence near the Powell community. Deputies and investigators promptly arrived at the location while the woman was being taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to DCSO, the woman endured severe physical injuries and is still in the hospital.

According to court records, the woman was attacked with a vegetable can, resulting in internal injuries, fractured facial bones, significant bruises, scrapes, and cuts.

On Tuesday, DCSO investigators secured a warrant for 46-year-old James Edward Wooten.

Later on Tuesday, DCSO said Wooten was seen driving near County Road 47 and County Road 48.

DCSO stated that when law enforcement attempted to pull over the vehicle, Wooten fled. Following a chase, Wooten was arrested on a first-degree assault warrant and additionally charged with Felony Attempt to Elude and DUI due to combined influence.

He was transported to DeKalb County Detention Center. His bond is set at $30,000.
