Speeding driver causes deadly crash, walks away with golf clubs in Atlanta

Atlanta Police say the man failed to stay at the scene of the accident, faces several felony charges.

ATLANTA — A man who police say casually walked away from a deadly crash with his golf clubs has been charged with vehicular homicide.

An arrest affidavit reveals that 31-year-old Buck Rollins was speeding in a Hyundai Elantra when he collided with a Toyota Prius traveling southbound on Mount Paran Road at the intersection of Northside Parkway in Atlanta. The incident took place on September 1st at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Authorities reported that Rollins was moving at 90 miles per hour in the right turn lane on westbound Northside Parkway when he drove over the curb and went airborne, impacting the Toyota, which had a driver and two passengers inside.

One of the passengers, 62-year-old Amy Lacy, died four days later. The two others were hospitalized for treatment of their injuries.

Following the collision, Rollins continued driving along Mount Paran Road, ultimately stopping near the Interstate 75 bridge. Video footage captured him taking his golf clubs and “casually walking away from the accident scene,” as noted in the affidavit.

Police were unable to contact Rollins for two days. In a phone interview, Rollins claimed he experienced a seizure and then walked home, failing to account for why he left the accident scene. He mentioned he had been golfing before the incident.

Data extracted from the vehicle’s onboard computers indicated that Rollins attempted to brake 2.5 seconds before the crash, raising doubts about his seizure claim, investigators reported.

Rollins is also facing speeding, reckless driving, and hit-and-run charges.
