Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, is an American from Chicago, Illinois. He was created a cardinal in 2023 by Pope Francis.

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the secluded College of Cardinals named the new Bishop of Rome, Pope Leo XIV. He becomes the 267th successor of Saint Peter after gathering for slightly over 24 hours and reaching a decision after four rounds of voting.
