BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The remains of what is believed to be a child who went missing in Fayette County eight months ago has been found.
On Thursday afternoon, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported finding a body in a burn pile near Wendy Pamela Bailey’s home. While an autopsy is still pending, authorities suspect the remains might belong to Kahleb Collins, a 1-year-old boy who vanished on September 9.
The disappearance of Collins wasn’t uncovered until December 8, following a car accident involving his mother, Wendy Pamela Bailey, which resulted in the deaths of her husband, Steven Collins, and their 2-year-old daughter, Ryleigh.
Bailey is currently charged with aggravated child abuse, domestic violence and abuse of a corpse.
“This outcome is truly heartbreaking, and our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who loved Kahleb,” stated Sheriff Byron Yerby in a press release. “Although this discovery provides some closure, it reminds us all of our duty to protect children. We remain dedicated to seeking justice in this case.”
This is a developing story.
