The item being recalled is a 1-liter Drinkmate Carbonation Bottle and customers warned it could suddenly explode while it is being used.

Drinkmate bosses have received eight reports of the item exploding, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

On four occasions, it has caused injuries – ranging from hearing damage to lacerations.

You could purchase the bottle for approximately $20 online, and it was available at retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Home Depot from April 2023 to October 2024.

It could also be bought as part of a Drinkmate kit which retailed at $130.

The bottles, manufactured in China, at risk have an expiry date between January and October 2026 plastered on the side of them.

More than 106,000 units are being recalled.

Shoppers who bought a recalled bottle should take a series of steps

First, they should stop using the item.

Then, they should get in touch with Drinkmate, who will be able to offer a replacement item.

Shoppers must then complete a form where they must include proof that they’ve shared a photo of the bottle with the word “recall” on it.

Then, they have been instructed to get rid of the item.

How to handle product recall

FOOD Safety experts insist that shoppers shouldn’t panic if they’re affected by a recall, as many are harmless.

However, consumers should take each warning seriously and follow the necessary steps to protect themselves.

Oftentimes, food manufacturers issue recalls as a precautionary measure, so there likely isn’t a foodborne illness hiding in your pantry.

However, even if the recall is merely a precaution, shoppers should always stay safe and not consume the affected items.

Experts advise people to keep a product closed if it hasn’t been opened, and never feed it to a pet or donate it to food banks.

Anyone who has handled or opened an affected item should wash their hands thoroughly with warm water and soap for 20 seconds.

Read the recall closely for specific instructions on how to get rid of the food item.

Typically, the brand will ask consumers to return the recalled product to the store where they purchased it for a full refund.

Sometimes shoppers will also be asked to throw it away so that no one else can eat it.

More than 600,000 units have been impacted by the recall order.

Customers were warned to stop using the recalled unit.

A pair of heated socks are also being recalled over the risk the item could cause burns when worn.

And, a recall order was issued for a type of smartwatch due to its wireless charging pad overheating.

Safety officials warned how this increased the risk of burn injuries and fire hazards.

Around 2,900 units are covered under the recall.
