A Colorado man released on a $3 million bond while awaiting trial in the alleged killing of his wife was arrested Friday after prosecutors accused him of being involved in a hit-and-run crash with two other vehicles in Denver.
Barry Morphew was taken into custody and booked at the Boulder County Jail.
Court records show Alamosa County District Judge Amanda Hopkins scheduled a Tuesday hearing to review issues related to Morphew’s bond.
As part of the bond conditions imposed last year, Morphew was required to remain near his home in southern Colorado, with exceptions allowed only for work and a limited number of approved circumstances.
Prosecutors said the Aug. 28 crash happened while Morphew was traveling to Denver International Airport, possibly to pick up his daughter, according to a court filing.
“To go to the airport for any purpose other than work constitutes a breach of his bond,” District Attorney Anne Kelly wrote in the filing.
Attorneys for Morphew did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking comment Friday.
Morphew has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial next summer in connection with the death of his wife, who vanished in 2020.

By then, charges against Barry Morphew had been dropped, but he was charged again with first-degree murder in his wife’s death and arrested.

Barry Morphew was the only person in the area other than wildlife officials with authorization to use the chemicals, prosecutors allege.
