The Lake Wales Police Department in Florida has released footage of an incident where an officer and his K-9 companion were dragged through a parking lot by a suspect evading arrest.

According to the department, the officer noticed Marlon Arrindell, 36, exceeding the speed limit by 30 mph on U.S. Highway 27 on the afternoon of August 31, prompting a traffic stop.

Investigators said they also determined Arrindell was driving with a suspended license during the traffic stop.

Surveillance footage showed Arrindell pulling into a Chevron gas station with the officer close behind in pursuit. After stopping, Arrindell exited his vehicle and questioned the officer about the stop.

Authorities said the officer tried to handcuff Arrindell due to “indicators of (him) possibly fleeing,” but Arrindell fought back.

The officer deployed his K-9 partner, Bolo, for assistance, but Arrindell re-entered his car and began to drive away, dragging both the officer and Bolo along with him through the lot.

Multiple videos provided by the police department showed the incident from different angles.

As another officer arrived on the scene, their body camera caught footage of the suspect speeding off, leaving the injured officer on the ground.

Yelling could also be heard as the dragged officer called for help over his radio.

Authorities located Arrindell roughly a mile away on East Bay Boulevard. Body camera footage from pursuing officers captured Arrindell fleeing on foot. He attempted to scale a barbed-wire fence during his escape, resulting in a significant leg injury.

Arrindell was provided medical treatment before being booked into jail, police reported.

Arrindell faces multiples charges including driving with a suspended license, fleeing to elude, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, injuring a police canine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The injured officer and K-9 Bolo have since been released from medical care and are recovering at home.

Officials provided photos showing some of the scrapes and bruises the officer sustained but said none of his injuries were serious. K-9 Bolo also suffered some scrapes on his paw and leg.
