A Long Island community is mourning the death of Allison Rahmani, a 40-year-old mother of four and beloved educator, after her SUV crashed into a backyard swimming pool.
Rahmani was driving in Hewlett, Nassau County, on Friday when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, which ended up submerged in the pool at her home, according to a report by JNS.
A source close to the family told JNS that Rahmani managed to call for help after the crash, but she died while being taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Rahmani worked as a teacher and math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway. Her husband, Matthew Rahmani, serves as president of Irving Place Minyan, a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Woodmere.
News of her death prompted an outpouring of grief online, with community members sharing tributes beneath a Facebook post announcing the tragedy.
“Tragic! She was the most amazing person. I can’t believe she’s gone,” one commenter wrote.
Another remembered her warmth, writing, “Always a smile, a friendly chat. Baruch dayan ha’emet [Blessed is the true judge], & condolences to her family.”
A third tribute described Rahmani as “a LIGHT that shined from the minute she walked in til the minute she left,” adding that she was “always appreciative and kind” and would be deeply missed.
The incident remains under investigation.
