The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that there were 41 individuals on the ferry during the recent mishap.
SAPELO ISLAND, Ga. — According to a report from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a ferry collided with the Marsh Landing Dock on Sapelo Island.
Officials stated that on the evening of Friday, Nov. 21, the ferry named Katie Underwood accidentally hit the gangway. Fortunately, all 41 passengers onboard escaped without injuries.
The Georgia DNR has announced that, due to the damage, the gangway will be closed as a safety measure. The U.S. Coast Guard has been informed about the incident. As a temporary solution, ferry services will be redirected to an alternative dock at Marsh Landing, with the ferry Annemarie taking over passenger transport duties.
This marks the second gangway-related incident on Sapelo Island within a year. Previously, in October 2024, a gangway collapse resulted in seven fatalities.
