Breaking: Trump Heading Back From G7 Early, Convening National Security Council (Updated)

Tensions in the Middle East seem to be escalating. On Monday evening, President Donald Trump, after declining to endorse a mild statement on the Iran-Israel conflict suggested by fellow G7 leaders, issued a cautionary message on Truth Social, advising, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

In a related update, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced via Twitter that President Trump, who had arrived in Canada on Sunday evening for the G7 summit, would be returning to the U.S. following his participation in Monday’s dinner.

President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.

Additionally, Trump has reportedly alerted the National Security Council to be prepared to meet up on his return.

Trump also reiterated what he means by “America First”:

AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth joined Jesse Watters on Fox News Monday evening to affirm that the Trump administration would still like there to be a deal reached, and described the U.S. posture as this:

“We’re vigilant, we’re prepared…we’re in the region to defend our people and our assets.”

This is a developing story. RedState will provide additional updates as warranted.

Update – 9:00 PM Eastern

President Trump posed for photos with other G7 leaders at the summit in Canada prior to his departure. He was asked by a reporter about his plans to leave early:

REPORTER: Mr. President, any comment on why you’re leaving the G7 early for Washington?

TRUMP: Well, I have to be back — very important — I want to just thank our great host…Canada, but you probably see what I see, and I have to be back as soon as I can. Going to have dinner with these wonderful leaders, and then I get on a plane — I have to be back early for obvious reasons.

REPORTER: Have you directed the National Security Council to meet in the Situation Room?

TRUMP: I loved it — I tell you, I loved it — and I think we got a lot done, really a lot done…U.K. — we signed a new trade deal today and we’re working on others, but we had a…just a really great relationship with everybody, and it’s very nice. I wish I could stay for tomorrow, but they understand. This is big stuff.
