In a recent development, pop icon Britney Spears has managed to sidestep significant jail time following a DUI charge from an incident in March. Spears has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, effectively resolving the case.
Although Spears was not present in the courtroom on Monday, her legal representatives were on hand to negotiate the plea deal. Her attorneys submitted a guilty plea on her behalf, resulting in a sentence of 12 months of probation. Additionally, Spears is required to complete a three-month alcohol education program and pay a $571 fine.
As part of her probation conditions, Spears must consent to vehicle searches when deemed necessary and is restricted to possessing drugs only if she holds a valid prescription.
“By entering this plea, Britney acknowledges her responsibility for her actions. She has committed to making positive changes, a commitment that is clearly recognized by the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to lessen the charges and drop the DUI. Britney is thankful for this leniency and appreciates the overwhelming support she has received,” stated her attorney, Michael Goldstein, to TMZ.
The arrest in question occurred on March 4, when Spears was taken into custody on the 101 freeway near Newbury Park.
