A Brooklyn nurse was identified on Saturday as the tragic victim of a fatal accident involving an ambulance in Midwood, according to police reports.
The ambulance, affiliated with Maimonides Medical Center, was making a left turn from Avenue O onto Ocean Avenue when it collided with 44-year-old Cherry Cayetano Sobel on Thursday, authorities stated.
After the collision, the ambulance driver continued without stopping.

Cayetano Sobel, who resided about a mile and a half from the accident scene, was quickly transported to Maimonides Medical Center. Sadly, medical personnel were unable to save her.
Investigators suspect that the driver may have been unaware of the collision.
In response to the incident, Maimonides Medical Center has placed the ambulance crew on suspension while an investigation is underway, hospital officials confirmed in a statement.
“The Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss,” the statement reads.
“Our EMT staff who were involved in the incident have been suspended pending the outcome of the NYPD’s investigation. Our heart goes out to the victim’s family and friends.”
There were no immediate criminal charges.

“Life has a funny way of working out, just when you thought it never will…,” her Facebook profile reads.
In one 2023 post on the site, she featured a photo of an idenfication card with her name on it for The Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
