A 47-year-old woman accused of trying to take a 4-year-old boy from his grandmother outside a Brooklyn McDonald’s on Monday has been arrested, police said.
Chrissy Payne of Flatlands was taken into custody at about 11:45 p.m. Friday, several days after she allegedly pulled J’Marke Roberts away from his 66-year-old grandmother outside the fast-food restaurant on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue in Crown Heights.
Authorities said Payne attempted to cross the street with the child before his mother, off-duty police officer Anyia James Roberts, managed to pull him away, sources told The Post.
Payne faces charges of attempted kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said Payne fled the scene without the boy. No injuries were reported.
J’Marke’s father, Gentle Roberts, praised his wife — who is seven months pregnant — as a hero following the alleged kidnapping attempt.
“His mom pulled him away from her,” Roberts said. “She’s a strong woman. She’s back at work today.”
Gentle Roberts said Anyia stood her ground as Payne allegedly became involved in a frightening tug-of-war with the boy’s mother and grandmother.
“She was saying, ‘That’s my kid!’ She was saying that more than once,” Roberts told The Post.
“The lady grabbed him by his shirt on his shoulder, and she wouldn’t let go. She was fighting his grandmother. They were pulling him back and forth, and he started crying.”
Although shaken by the incident, J’Marke returned to school on Thursday.
