Disturbing video from a bungee jumping accident in Brazil appears to show a 21-year-old woman being pushed from a bridge without being secured to the safety rope, which can be seen lying coiled on the ground below.
Witnesses did not realize what had happened until the jump was already underway.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died Saturday after falling from a 130-foot abandoned railway bridge in Limeira, in the state of São Paulo. Multiple videos circulating online appear to show that she was not attached to the swing rope before instructors sent her off the platform.
Footage reviewed by local outlet G1 reportedly shows the rope in a pile near the feet of three guides, who later said they were unaware that de Freitas had not been clipped in before the jump.
In one of the recordings, a witness can be heard shouting, “Guys, the rope!” as onlookers — including de Freitas’ fiancé — react in shock.
Another graphic clip shows the young woman striking the ground below the bridge as those nearby scream in horror.
But the guides themselves stood around, seeming almost nonchalant, another video shows.
Two of the guides ditched the dying woman and fled into the woods, but a nurse â who was waiting to take her own jump â rushed to the ground and tried to save de Fritasâ life, G1 reported.
Rayza Gabrieli Dias Delfino, 26, found de Fritas with a faint pulse and tried to resuscitate her, the young hero told police.
Rescue workers arrived and attempted to revive her with a defibrillator, but she died at the scene.
All three guides were arrested charged with manslaughter, G1 reported.
“It was a team there that wasn’t regulated, they didn’t even have authorization to be there,” police spokesperson Andrea Dantas Levy told the outlet.
De Freitas had posted about her upcoming swing adventure hours before her death.
âWho was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge???â she said in a chilling final Instagram post.
