California ICE Arrests DWTS Star With Violent Criminal Past

Federal immigration officials in California have taken into custody a Latvian former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant with what authorities describe as a violent criminal history, the California Post has learned.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Roberts Nemiro in San Francisco on Tuesday. Officials identified him as an unlawfully present noncitizen and former reality television figure whose record includes arrests tied to sexual battery and assault.

Nemiro, 43, appeared on “Dejo ar zvaigzni!”, Latvia’s version of the British hit “Strictly Come Dancing,” the format widely known to American audiences as “Dancing With the Stars.”

ICE agents located Nemiro after receiving information from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, authorities said.

“This illegal alien from Latvia may have once had a career as a professional dancer on TV, but has turned into a career criminal,” said Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.

“Despite California being a sanctuary state, ICE was able to arrest this criminal and get him off our streets, and he will soon be deported from our country,” Bis said.

“ICE is bringing the curtain down on his illegal stay and crime spree here in the U.S.,” she added.

According to authorities, Nemiro entered the United States on a visa in October 2011 and remained in the country after that visa expired in August 2012.

Nemiro’s rap sheet includes convictions for aggravated assault of non-family with a gun and disorderly conduct, and arrests for battery, sexual battery, possession of controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.

Nemiro is being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
